My name is Shinji Sakai, and I have been appointed to succeed former President Hiroshi Nishimoto as Representative Director & President of SHOKO CO., LTD. as of March 30, 2011.
At the SHOKO CO., LTD. Group, in accordance with our Management Philosophy to “contribute to the creation of an affluent society with the earth as our field of operation, fairness, freedom and generosity as our culture, and customers’ satisfaction and trust as our energy,” we are developing our business in a wide variety of fields, including chemicals, plastics, metals, construction materials, food materials, electronics materials, fertilizers, analytical instruments, real estate, insurance, and temporary personnel placement.
With such trends as the structural shift brought about by the remarkable growth of China and other emerging countries and an increase in environmental awareness, the global economy is entering a new phase. In this rapidly changing environment, the question of how to compete globally is the biggest challenge for our Group.
Keeping this awareness in mind, and with the slogan, “change is the foundation of growth,” this year, we have started our five year Medium-Term Business Plan, with 2015 as the target year. Our overall strategy consists of the following four points.
- Promotion of change in business structure
We shall overhaul our business structure with a greater emphasis on earnings power, and pursue mergers and acquisitions proactively. - Switching to a business model that enables initiative
We shall reconstruct a business scheme that enables initiative by our company and promote proposal-oriented business. - Further expansion of our overseas operations
We shall expand overseas sales of our core materials, and make full use of and expand our overseas hubs. - Meeting the challenges and themes of the next generation
We shall tackle the environmental and clean energy fields and expand new business with our specialty fields.
